The European Network for Film Discourse (The END) and short film magazine Talking Shorts are organizing two multi-day workshop sessions for aspiring film critics during the short film festivals in Lago (July) and Ljubljana (August).
Under the guidance of established journalists and film scholars, you will gain insight into journalistic practices and learn the basic craft of film criticism through short films and curated short film programmes. The writing of your texts will be supervised editorially during the festivals, and a selection of the texts will finally be published on Talking Shorts.
Intensive tandem workshop for film criticism in the context of two film festivals. The workshop units build on each other, but will be thematically different. The lectures will be held in English.
Arrival and departure dates may vary depending on your place of residence.
The tutor of this tandem workshop will be Leonardo Goi. Leonardo is a film critic and columnist at MUBI Notebook, and a regular contributor to Reverse Shot, Senses of Cinema, The Film Stage, Film Comment, among others. He runs the Berlinale Talent Press, a platform for emerging film critics, and the Golden Apricot International Film Festival's Young Critics campus.

The workshop is aimed at anyone over the age of 18 who has a serious interest in critical and discursive work with film, and can participate in both units of the tandem workshop. The participation fee is 150 Euros in total. (We don't want to exclude anyone. If the participation fee is too high for you, please contact us.)
Both festivals offer accommodation, covered travel expenses (up to 150 Euros in total), meals during the workshop units (breakfast and lunch) and a full accreditation that grants access to all screenings and other festival events.
